"It's All About Color"

After enjoying the creative challenges of watercolors, I discovered the joys of painting on silk. Friends say I have found "my" medium; the perfect way to display my creativity. I say I just love it. The color spreads over and is absorbed into the threads of the silk. The dyes and the fabric become one. In watercolor, the paint can only sit on top of the paper. As the silk absorbs the color, it becomes more transparent and more luminous than any other medium.

My goal with art is to create works of beauty that will enliven people's homes and lives. Many people have told me they feel happy when they look at my paintings. I firmly believe that color can influence moods and feelings. I try to use color mixes and combinations that are lively and zesty, hoping to transport the viewer to another time and place. I want them to take a mini vacation every time they look at one of my paintings! I know I have succeeded when people say, "I want to be inside your painting!"

All my paintings reflect things I love and have meaning to me: Italian ceramics, vintage 50's linens, and flowers, set in the landscapes of California, the Mediterranean, and the tropics. I delight in conveying a passion and awe for these places through the tools of gutta, silk, and dyes. That is the most gratifying aspect - creating works using exciting visual elements - and have others "get" my message of harmony, beauty, and happiness. But what initially sends me to the sketch pad is not anticipating happy viewers, but a need to interpret the beauty of a special place in my own way. So my rewards are two-fold. First, if I strive to create or imitate a scene, and when the results please me, I get tremendous satisfaction. Secondly, if other people see my work and they feel happy, energized, or transported, then I am doubly rewarded. My creative goals have been achieved.

With the remarkable technology of the IRIS printer and giclée reproduction prints, I can now offer excellent quality prints at affordable rates. This method of printing captures the vivid colors of the originals perfectly.

My paintings on silk have been exhibited and sold through galleries in Morgan Hill, Los Olivos, Capitola, and Carmel, California and are in collections all over the U.S. and Europe.
