ARTIST OF THE MONTH Rules

Rules For Artists Participating in the
VALLE DEL SUR
"ARTIST OF THE MONTH" and
"ARTIST OF THE YEAR" Peer Judging

All Valle del Sur members are invited to bring in one piece of art to each meeting to be judged by their peers. You may bring the same piece until it receives a ribbon, after which you must bring in a new piece of artwork. All members and visiting non-members are invited to cast a ballot.

Steps to Take:

  1. Sign in on the ARTIST OF THE MONTH clipboard. Please print or write clearly.
  2. The first artist signing must sign on line 1.
  3. When signing in, DO NOT skip lines/numbers. Sign in on the next blank line.
  4. Fill in all the columns after your name except the final one: "VOTES".
  5. Take the corresponding number card and display it in front of your artwork in the display area. The number must be the SAME as the number on the line you signed in on.

During the meeting, there will be a break during which you will have time to examine the artwork on display. Everyone is entitled to one voting ballot that has three lines for entering choices. Mark your ballot and place it in the metal can provided. After the short break, votes will be tallied. All votes, first, second and third, will be added up on an equal basis. A First, Second, and Third Place ribbon will be awarded to the winners according to the number of votes each piece received. In the event of a tie, there may be more than one ribbon awarded in any category. Ribbons will be presented at the end of each meeting. All first place winners should be photographed for the Valle del Sur web site.

All award winners are eligible to participate in the AVA (Alliance of Visual Artists) Art Fest. If an ArtFest is scheduled for the current year, a link and information will be available on the Valle del Sur website.

Participating in each "Artist of the Month" competition brings you a step closer to recognition as a Valle del Sur "ARTIST OF THE YEAR". A First, Second, and Third Place "Artist of the Year" is determined by points accumulated at each meeting throughout the year:

  • Each 1st place award receives 4 points.
  • Each 2nd place award receives 3 points.
  • Each 3rd place award receives 2 points.
  • Each entry, regardless of placing an award, receives 1 point. (They add up!)

After the November meeting all the points are totaled up for the year. The prestigious "ARTIST OF THE YEAR" Awards are presented at the December Valle del Sur Holiday meeting.
